Wish Painting (Nasturtium Flower)

Leading from the heart, and remembering to do so in challenging times. A wish for the health of the forests, and for all animals that they may have access to humane living conditions . Little wish squiggles of other beautiful things. Topaz, olivine, and other precious gems. A friend took pictures of me in recumbent poses for figure guides. A giant nasturtium flower in the background painted with pigment I bought in Vietnam. Tree saplings on either side of the flower, symbolizing hope for the future. I actually watered a bunch of saplings yesterday, so maybe art mimics life or life mimics art-

This painting is about breaking up, and the heartache felt with departure from a relationship.  It’s a painting of my x, but it’s also a self portrait in a way.  It’s a figure crying in the rain, broken as to why two people can’t stay together- I chose pastel and bright colors, turquoise, pinks, peaches and yellows because despite the loss of what was, I can still remember the breathtaking beauty of the times spent together.  Those colors usually only surface in those types of works.

This oil portrait begun with a live sitting of Luc, and then finished the following day from looking at snapshots.  I met Luc earlier in the year in Seattle at a club and through facebook contacted him about sitting for a piece.
