Full Moon (May) watercolor on paper, 18 by 24 in. Emilia Kallock 2017 It was a light breezy night outside my studio door, and I captured this scene of the moon, because I find paintings of the night mysterious and unique. The night sounds found their way into the moment. They remind us that it’s night on the other side of the world.

Untitled (Norwegian Gargoyles) charcoal and acrylic on industrial wallpaper, 66 by 53 in. Emilia Kallock 2017 The central, dual walking figure in this painting represents someone learning to face deep fears, as represented by the lower figures- all modeled from gargoyles on the Nidaros Cathedral in Norway. Once we have visited and reckoned (represented by the door) these heavy feelings (anger, despair, judgment, guilt, fear and shame) and they no longer rule our lives, we have space to let in love for ourselves and the environment around us, represented by the dandelions (that no longer need to be sprayed) and the forest (that can grow) the united hands (love for self and others). The cannabis leaves represent a similar trip from fear to euphoria, although it is not a remedy). The entire process of self realization is not an easy or simple one to take, so I wanted to memorialize the process to remind myself and others that nonetheless it is possible to do.

In the Park, oil on board, 14 by 18 in. Emilia Kallock 2017 A continuation of my theme of glorifying and celebrating parks and community outdoor natural spaces and the happiness it brings people. This image I drew from a photograph I took of a couple in Chile lounging in one of the many green spaces and plazas. I added more flowers to form a whimsical and dreamy look.
